CHATSWORTH,
Calif. — Member of the Alpha Golf Long
Drive team and 2003 Senior RE/MAX World Champion
Eric Jones of Orinda, Calif., received more
high honors as the Long Drivers of America
(LDA) named Jones the 2004 LDA Rookie of the
Year for the Tour’s senior division.
"
I am extremely honored to be named 2004 Senior
Rookie of the Year by the Long Drivers of America.
It is a testament to hard work and perseverance
over a long Tour season," says Jones. "At
the beginning of the year I wanted to prove to
my fellow Senior competitors that the 2003 World
Champion title was no fluke — that I was
no flash in the pan. I think I did that by virtue
of the fact that I made it to the finals in nearly
every event on the Tour this season."
Last fall, Jones was a newcomer to Long Drive
competition. Nevertheless, he defeated the more
seasoned Long Drive veterans and won the 2003
RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship (senior
division) by setting a new LDA world record of
381 yards and 33 inches. Then, trophy in hand,
he really caught the media spotlight by proposing
to his girlfriend on national television.
"I had a lot to learn out there my rookie
year — how
to compete, how to pace myself, and how to survive
the travel, especially with a newborn baby at
home. But what sticks out most in my mind over
the whole season is the depth of talent in the
senior division. There are some great golf swings
out there, and they are a terrific bunch of guys.
I'm proud to call them friends, and honored to
have shared the tee with them all season long."
Jones currently plays the Alpha
C830.2 driver.
