CHATSWORTH,
Calif. — Affectionately known as the ‘Grandpa
of Long Drive,’ 2003 RE/MAX World Super
Senior Division champion, Fred Hooter has announced
that he is joining the Alpha Team and that
he will play an Alpha Golf Version 2 driver
(425cc) to defend his title in the RE/MAX World
Championship in Mesquite, Nev., later this
month.
Competing in Long Drive since 1979, Hooter
is perhaps the most experienced Long Drive
player actively competing on the Long Drivers
of America (LDA) Tour. He won the 1999 RE/MAX
World Long Drive Senior Champion title with
a 383-yard drive, and then claimed the 2003
RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship (Super
Senior division) with an inspiring 345-yard,
11-inch blast. He is now playing the Alpha
Version 2 driver which features a two-piece
head construction with a forged 15-3-3-3 Beta
Titanium face and a unique high-polished, black
finish.
”This Alpha club (Version 2) is really
impressive and I’m switching,” says
the 61-year-old Hooter, who has competed in
Long Drive since
1979. “It’s more solid than any
club I’ve ever hit, and the black-finished
head represents pure power to me. It’s
a classic-looking club with a forgiving sweet
spot, and it looks real nice sitting there
ready to rumble.”
Alpha Golf’s dedication to performance
and distance has produced driver designs so
superior that the results have attracted some
of the biggest names in Long Drive. More than
a half-dozen past and present RE/MAX World
Long Drive champions — power hitters
such as Mike Gorton, Carl Wolter, Greg Wellong,
Vince Howell — and dozens more have joined
the Alpha Team to compete in a sport most often
won by feet and inches, rather than yards.
