2004-11-08 - The GolfWorks Unveils Long-Awaited CT250 Fairway Woods

NEWARK, OHIO — Following the tremendous success of the innovative CT250 Carbon/Titanium series of drivers, clubhead designers at The GolfWorks have proudly unveiled the all-new CT250 Fairway woods, two innovative fairway wood designs that incorporate lightweight composite crowns and an integrated weight redistribution system for individual-specific trajectory control.

Without question, the CT250 driver has been one of the most talked about driver designs in the history of The GolfWorks, and the new-for-2005 CT250 Fairway woods offer the same material engineering and composite technology that made the CT250 drivers so popular among golfers and custom clubmakers. But unlike the drivers, the CT250 Fairway woods are available as an all-stainless design (3+, 3-, 5- & 7-woods) as well as the popular graphite-crown design (3-, 5- & 7-woods). The unique graphite crown offers a slightly lower center of gravity than that found in the stainless models, a feature which helps the ball to achieve the optimum trajectory. Both models also feature a forged maraging 455 high-strength steel club face that allows for a thinner face thickness which enhances ball velocity.

Perhaps even more notable is that both models of the CT250 Fairway woods series feature a new visible weighting system that allows for individual head weight redistribution for specific control of each head’s center of gravity and trajectory. Positioned toward the rear of each head, four permanently fixed, precision-machined tungsten screws — each weighing 3.5 grams — allow 14 grams of additional weight to be repositioned to the rear of the clubhead, greatly assisting shot trajectory.

“The CT250 Fairway woods have an extremely solid sound and feel,” says Britt Lindsey, vice president of technical services for The GolfWorks. “The all-stainless models are a unique four-piece forged construction, while the graphite crown model consists of three unique forged stainless sections and a lightweight, composite crown. Just as with the CT250 drivers, the graphite crown design lowers the clubhead’s center of gravity and increases the perimeter weighting for more stability. The CT250 drivers have been hugely popular, and these fairways are an excellent complement with an extremely high playability.”

First introduced in The GolfWorks 2004 Clubmakers Catalog, the CT250 drivers feature a high-strength carbon composite material with a Beta Titanium forged face to provide a forgiving design that maximizes the U.S. Golf Association’s new rules on ‘Characteristic Time.’ Late last year, the USGA introduced its new standard for limiting the spring-face effect in driver and wood heads that results in increased ball launch speed. The previous rule limited coefficient of restitution (COR) with a measurement of face deflection, however, Characteristic Time measures and limits the amount of time a golf ball remains in contact with the clubface during impact to 239 microseconds (with an 18 microsecond tolerance).
