NEWARK,
Ohio — The latest book by Ralph Maltby — The
Maltby Playability Factor - Understanding Golf
Club Dynamics Book One: Irons — was the
culmination of more than 10 years of research
and the latest in ‘required reading’ among
custom clubmakers and golf equipment designers.
But that extensive research has also yielded
golf’s newest line of graphite shafts,
specifically designed for playability — the
MPF Series of graphite shafts.
The MPF is unlike any line of graphite shafts
in golf. Most manufacturers’ shaft offerings
in any given line are comprised of single design
that is manipulated for the individual flex requirements.
They manipulate them by how they are trimmed,
by how they are positioned on one particular
mandrel, or by how they are sanded.
“Understanding that in order to fit a variety
of golfers with different shaft needs, we set
about to create a shaft line with different designs
for each player category,” says Britt Lindsey,
vice president of technical services for The
GolfWorks. “In that manner, we could get
the optimum playability characteristics for that
player in each shaft.”
The MPF graphite shafts utilize completely different
weights, torques, frequencies, bend points and
tip stiffness within one family of shafts. This
not a line with minor variations. Each shaft
is designed for the specific Playability Factor
code printed on the shaft which directly correlates
the shaft’s characteristics to specific
player types. The gives a more specific fit than
the general flex designations used by other shaft
manufacturers, which vary from manufacturer to
manufacturer. The Shaft Playability code targets
the speed, distance, trajectory and control elements
for which each shaft is designed.
The MPF line of shafts is a true breakthrough
in shaft design. Within this line, virtually
any player can be fit with a shaft that enhances
their game. Combine the engineering and performance
with the very appealing two-tone black and silver
metallic finish, and you have a shaft that is
one of the best available.
