NEWARK,
Ohio — Utilizing lightweight carbon material
and advanced custom-flight engineering, the
CT 250 Series drivers and the new CT 250 Flight
Control drivers continue to set new sales records
for The Golfworks. During the first half of
2005, the CT 250 series has consistently proven
to be one of the most popular driver lines
for The GolfWorks, the golf industry’s
most complete source for golf club components
and clubmaking tools.
First released in 2004, the original CT 250 Series
drivers feature lightweight carbon material in
an innovative composite crown design that pushes
driver spring-effect to the limit, and incorporate
visible tungsten perimeter weights that expand
the percentage of the head’s overall mass
to the perimeter.
“The weight screws simply show where we
wanted the extra concentration of mass,” says
Britt Lindsey, vice president of Technical Services
and R&D for The Golfworks. ”We could
have designed the heads so that the weights were
positioned on the inside of the shell, but we
chose to make them visible. The location of the
heavier tungsten in the back and perimeter helps
stabilize the 460cc head and optimizes the launch
angle. As a result, the combination of the clubhead
and the CT 250 Compression Wound shaft is simply
one of the best I have ever experienced.”
The ‘Composite Crown’ version of
the CT 250 allows for even more mass to be distributed
in the head properly for better performance.
The all-titanium and the Composite/Ti versions
have a thin 15-333 Beta Titanium face that takes
the CT (Characteristic Time) reading, used by
the U.S. Golf Association to measure face performance,
to the maximum conforming limit. Meanwhile, the
CT 250 Flight Control Series that was introduced
in 2005 features an Investment Cast Titanium
body with a SP 700 forged Beta Titanium face,
and it quickly became a best-selling model.
“The Investment Casting of the Ti body
is very expensive, but necessary for a complicated
design
like the Flight Control Series. We worked with
one of the best foundries in the world, and one
of the few experts in the casting of titanium,
in the development of the CT 250 Flight Control
Series,” says Mark McCormick, CEO of The
Golfworks.
Lindsey explains that the Flight Control design
had been on the drawing board for awhile, but
was brought to the CT line when the trend came
to the forefront of the market. The important
difference, he notes, is that the CT 250 is not
just a “me too” weight adjustable
driver. “We could have offered a simple
weight-adjustable driver a lot more cheaply if
that is had been our goal,” says Lindsey. “But
we wanted to maximize the adjustability, without
hindering the overall performance and feel of
the head. Based on our testing and the feedback
we have received, we've been very successful.”
Frank Stranick, a long-time professional clubmaker
from Pennsylvania can attest to the performance
of the CT Drivers. “Just recently I had
a player come in with a popular OEM driver with
a very expensive graphite shaft in it,” he
says. “We did a launch monitor test to
establish his launch and spin with that driver.
I then handed him a CT 250 driver with the CT
250 high-performance graphite shaft. His ball
speed increased to 159mph and his carry distance
increased by 17 yards. Needless to say, he is
now using the CT.”
“It has always been about function and
performance over form for us,” adds Ralph
Maltby, founder for The Golfworks. “Trust
me, if the CT 250 driver was not the best driver
I have ever
hit, it would not be in my bag.”
