LIVERMORE, Calif. — Normally driving nearly four-times the length of a football field, 2002 RE/MAX World Long Drive Senior Champion and 2004 LDA Long Drive Tour Senior Rookie of the Year, Eric Jones of the Seaver Golf Academy joined well-known football celebrities for the National Football League Retired Players Association (NFLRPA), Northern California, 4th Annual Celebrity Open. The event was held at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif., and Jones aided in the fund-raising efforts with long drive demonstrations and player competitions.
“I’m very honored to be a part the NFLRPA’s tournament and to assist them with their goals of helping at-risk children and kids needing hospice care,” says Jones, grandson of renowned amateur golfer Charles Seaver, aka ‘Mr. California Golf’, for whom the Seaver Golf Academy was named. “Everybody had a great time, and it’s always fun to give these football players a long drive demonstration that shows them what a real ‘long bomb’ is all about.”
During his long drive demonstration, Jones used the new Sabre golf ball which features an innovative ‘thermo-plastic’ core — the only one of its kind in golf. Designed with DuPont science, the Accelerator® core redefines performance for high-energy, low-compression balls by providing greater distance without having to ‘muscle’ the ball. Plus, the thermoplastic core material provides for a completely homogenous composition — unlike typical rubber-core balls, so the core is perfectly balanced.
Consisting of hundreds of retired NFL players living in Northern California, the NFLRPA, Northern California, Inc. is a community-based charitable organization serving the needs of children by raising funds and public awareness. The four-day event benefited two local charities close to the players hearts, Pros for Youth, Inc., an in-school mentor program established by former San Diego Charger wide receiver Mike Carter and The George Marks Children’s Hospice, the first hospice established focusing solely on the care of children meeting the end of their lives and their families.
“At the Seaver Golf Academy, we offer a variety of golf schools, instruction, junior summer camps, corporate events, exhibitions and innovative programs to meet the needs of individual golfers as well as groups,” says Jones. “The NFLRPA, Northern California is an extremely community-conscious organization and we’re very pleased to be associated with them.”
