- UST’s Shafts Up 75% at the Sony Open |
FORT WORTH,
TEXAS — Equipment surveys at this weekend’s
Sony Open in Hawaii revealed that more PGA Tour
pros are putting their trust in graphite shafts
engineered by United Sports Technologies (UST),
a world leader in graphite golf shafts. According
to Darrell Survey results, graphite wood shafts
by UST increased more than 75 percent from last
year’s tournament, and UST woods outnumbered
woods from Aldila, Grafalloy, Callaway and 17
other known brands.
As might be expected, UST’s brightly colored
Proforce® GOLD shafts continued to be popular
with professional players in 2004. But usage of
last year’s hottest shafts on tour, HTD®
(Harmon Tour Design®) has really surged in
player demand in these first two tournaments,
with 17 players on board at the Sony event. And
just for the record, that is 5 more HTD’s
in play than Aldila’s NV wood shaft models
and 7 more than Grafalloy’s Blue. Add this
year’s most anticipated new concept, IROD™
hybrid utility shafts, throw in the exclusive
ACCRA® premium shafts (10 in play this week)
and you have the recipe for UST being “the
Shaft” on the PGA Tour in 2004.
“Our strategy in 2004 is to support the
Tour like never before,” said Gene Simpson,
vice president of marketing and sales for UST
Brands. “That’s why we had such a
great 2003 and we are not about to let up. In
2003 we expanded the Proforce series by adding
the XL, the first ultra-light weight shaft specifically
designed for the new, larger head drivers. Then,
with the help of Butch Harmon and his brothers
Craig, Dick and Bill, we introduced the HTD Counter
Balance™ series, which quickly became arguably,
the hottest shafts on Tour in 2003.” |
