2005-02-23 - Prototype Proforce Wins Nissan Open
FORT WORTH, Texas — The Tour buzz about an all-new Proforce shaft had been growing louder recently. This week, after a sudden death playoff win at the Nissan Open in Pacific Palisades, Calif., the buzz exploded with the dramatic re-emergence of the popular Proforce shaft series by United Sports Technologies ® (UST). The victory was a tremendous introduction for the new shaft — known by the pros as the Proforce V2.

The win was made even more spectacular by the fact that this year’s champion had been a long time user of steel shafts in his driver, and he only recently switched to the Proforce V2.

“When a player who uses a steel shaft in his driver finally makes the jump into graphite, you can bet it’s for something really special,” says world-acclaimed golf instructor Butch Harmon, the coach of this year’s Nissan Open champion. “I’ve never seen him drive the ball so well as he does with the new Proforce V2 shaft.”

Currently, the new Proforce V2 shafts are offered in 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 95-gram versions, however, the new shaft is only available as a prototype on Tour and additional information is limited. According to Shawn Mullin, PGA Tour Manager for UST, the proprietary details regarding the shaft’s performance characteristics, design and construction are closely guarded information at this time because of the highly competitive nature of the graphite shaft industry.

“ All I can say,” offers Mullin, “is that the shaft was introduced only a few short weeks ago, and UST’s new V2 is already causing quite a stir.”
