2005-05-25 - PGA Tour Players are Switching to UST
FORT WORTH, Texas — What a difference a year makes. PGA Tour players’ usage of graphite shafts designed and manufactured by United Sports Technologies at the 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship was up 60 percent from the 2004 Nelson, making UST brands among the fastest-growing in golf.
 
But the company’s growth has not been limited to the Byron Nelson Championship. By comparing wood shafts in play to the same tournaments a year ago, UST has experienced huge increases across the board. For example, from 2004 to 2005, there was a 35 percent increase in UST shafts at the Zurich Open of New Orleans; a 29 percent jump at the Wachovia Championship two weeks ago, and a 40 percent increase at the Bank of America Colonial this week. Interestingly, UST’s 60 percent growth occurs amidst recent reports suggesting the overall usage of graphite wood shafts on the PGA Tour is up by only 10 percent.
