2005-06-08 - New Proforce V2 Lands Wales Open
FORT WORTH, Texas — Days after its official introduction, the all-new, super low-torque Proforce® V2 landed its third victory of the season at the Wales Open on the European Tour. The V2 graphite shaft, designed and manufactured by United Sports Technologies® (UST), has already received accolades from some of the world’s finest golfers, but none more earnest than this year’s Wales Open champion who shot a final round 62 with a V2 paired up with his Ping G2 driver head.

“ The new Proforce V2 is the hottest, most talked about graphite shaft right now on the PGA Tour,” says Shawn Mullin, PGA Tour representative for UST. “We’re very excited about the performance characteristics of this new shaft, especially its low-torque design that is optimized for today’s 400cc to 460cc heads. In most of the larger driver and fairway wood heads, the clubhead’s center of gravity is positioned further away from the shaft’s center line and that causes more twisting pressure on the shaft. However, the V2’s low-torque design helps prevent clubheads from twisting open on impact.”

The trend in larger driver and fairway wood heads has increased hit-ability for many golfers but, in most cases, the larger heads possess centers of gravity (CG) which have been repositioned further away from the shaft’s center line, resulting in more stress and twisting on the shaft. The V2’s low torque design provides the power and control needed for 400cc to 460cc heads, prevents clubheads from twisting open on impact, and limits the amount of back spin imparted onto the ball, thus transferring more energy at impact. In addition, the new Proforce V2 incorporates UST’s sophisticated ‘hoop strength’ engineering. Using a high modulus material lay up (or 90-degree material design), the V2 utilizes the added hoop strength so the shaft recovers faster when loaded or flexed.

“ The new V2 provides incredible stability and consistency,” adds Mullin. “This new shaft is truly unmatched in its performance.”
