- UST® Delivers Win at Greater Hickory |
FORT WORTH,
Texas — While graphite shafts by United
Sports Technologies® (UST) were heating up
the Gila River Classic on the Nationwide Tour,
UST’s high-performance Harmon Tour Design
(HTD®) shafts delivered an exciting victory
on the Champions Tour. Playing a Titleist driver
upgraded with an Harmon Tour Design graphite
shaft, this year’s champion shot a bogey-free
back nine to score a final-round 7-under 65 and
win the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn.
Now a staple on all pro tours, the HTD is offered
in most popular original equipment manufacturer
(OEM) products either as a stock or custom upgrade
option.
“Many of UST’s high-performance shafts
are extremely well-suited for senior golfers,
so
it’s very rewarding to earn such a high-profile
win on the Champions Tour,” says Shawn
Mullin, PGA Tour representative for UST. “The
professionals on the Champions Tour often have
20-plus years of pro golf experience, so their
preference of UST’s advanced graphite shafts
is high praise. The HTD line is a great example
of our engineers’ dedication to superior
performance.”
“It’s is no surprise to see the HTD
win on the Champions Tour. When fitting golfers
at
demo days, the HTD fits a lot of different type
of swings,” adds Jamie Pipes, product testing
and field research manger for UST. “Even
at 65 grams, senior players like the draw-bias
ball flight produced by the CB-65 model because
they do not have to work as hard to turnover
the clubhead.”
The high-performance HTD was designed with feedback
from world-renown golf instructor Butch Harmon
and his brothers — Craig, Billy and Dick — and
features an ‘active’ tip section
that performs significantly different from the
tip section found in most shafts. Mullin explains
that the HTD’s tip section is torsionally
stable to control the clubhead and offers a higher
launch angle for a high, penetrating ball flight
down range. The active tip section is the result
of extra carbon fiber material used to distribute
additional weight in the butt section and to
move the shaft’s balance point towards
the butt end, thus providing more stability and
control in a player’s hands. HTD offers
players the ability to swing confidently, increase
ball speed and add more distance.
