2005-10-25 - UST® Wins Third Straight at SBC Championship
FORT WORTH, Texas — Winning for the third consecutive week and garnering its fourth pro victory in five weeks, graphite shafts by United Sports Technologies® (UST) are easily the hottest graphite shafts on the pro tours. This week, UST’s high-performance HTD® Counter Balance graphite shaft helped post a 14-under 199 to win the SBC Championship in San Antonio.

Within the past five weeks, UST graphite shafts have won the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas on the PGA Tour; Greater Hickory Classic, The Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach (pro-junior division) and SBC Championship on the Champions Tour; and the Albertson’s Boise Open on the Nationwide Tour.

“The HTD shafts are one of the most successful high-performance shafts ever played on the Champions Tour,” says Jamie Pipes, product testing and field research manger for UST. “The HTD is well suited for many different swing types and particularly senior players. The 65-gram HTD Counter Balance model, for example, produces a draw-bias ball flight that is perfect for many senior players because it allows them to turnover the clubhead with far less effort.”

The high-performance HTD was designed with feedback from world-renown golf instructor Butch Harmon and his brothers — Craig, Billy and Dick — and features an ‘active’ tip section that performs significantly different from the tip section found in most shafts. The active tip section is possible because of extra carbon fiber material used to distribute additional weight in the butt section and to move the shaft’s balance point towards the butt end, thus providing more stability and control in a player’s hands. HTD offers players the ability to swing confidently, increase ball speed and add more distance.

HTD graphite shafts are offered as stock and custom upgrade options in most popular original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products either as a stock or custom upgrade option. For more information on HTD shafts or other UST products, contact UST Sales and Public Relations Manager Randy Stuart at 281.250.8465 or visit http://www.ustgolfshaft.com.

United Sports Technologies makes graphite golf shafts for golf consumers and many original equipment manufacturers, such as Nike, Tommy Armour, Sonartec, Wilson Sporting Goods, Hogan, Spalding, and many others. UST also produces and distributes such world-renown graphite shaft brands as Proforce, ACCRA, PURE Gold, IROD and Harmon Tour Design which are played in more than 100 tour events on the PGA, SPGA, Nationwide and European tours. Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, UST operates four manufacturing facilities throughout the world and produces more than four million graphite shafts a year for original equipment manufacturers and custom clubmakers.
