FORT WORTH, Texas — Graphite shafts designed by United Sports Technologies (UST®) turned up the heat on the European Tour, winning the inaugural Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. This week’s champion, a Ping staff player who recently upgraded his G5 driver with a Proforce V2 shaft, fired four birdies and an eagle in the final round to capture his first win in four years.
In other Tour news, UST also dominated the inaugural West Coast event for the PGA Tour with four players in the Top Five at this week’s Chrysler Classic — and three of those players cashed in on the accuracy and performance of the new Proforce V2.
“The Proforce V2 has tallied an incredible record on professional tours around the world, and more and more pros are clamoring for the shaft design that has no peers,” says Stacey Benvenuto, PGA Tour Manager for UST. “The super low-torque V2 optimizes the performance of today’s larger clubheads and prevents clubheads from twisting open on impact.”
One of the performance-enhancing characteristics of the Proforce V2 is its low torque design — the 76-gram model features 2.2 degrees of torque — which is optimized to work with today’s 400cc to 460cc driver heads. The trend in larger driver and fairway wood heads has increased hit-ability for many golfers, but in most of these larger heads, the head’s center of gravity (CG) has been moved further away from the center line of the shaft, a design factor which places more stress and causes more twisting on the shaft. The V2’s low torque design provides the power and control needed for today's 400cc to 460cc heads. Also, because the low-torque V2 prevents clubheads from twisting open on impact, the V2 increases the amount of back spin imparted onto the ball and enhances shot dispersion.
