FORT WORTH, Texas — One of the world’s leading innovators in graphite shaft design, UST® (United Sports Technologies®) was in the driver’s seat on pro tours around the world, winning the Buick Open on the PGA Tour, U.S. Women’s Open on the LPGA Tour and the Peek’n Peak Classic on the Nationwide Tour. The three-tour sweep marks the third time this season that graphite shafts designed by UST have delivered multiple pro victories in the same weekend.
The UST Proforce V2 shaft was one of the big winners for the weekend and helped to deliver a dramatic victory at the Buick Open. This year’s champion played a TaylorMade driver custom-fit with a V2 shaft.
“It was a great week for UST across the board,” says Jim McIntosh, tour representative for UST. “Our driver shafts captured first-place and a second-place money position on the PGA Tour, and all three tour wins, which includes an LPGA major, are strong indications of the growing trust pro players have in the consistency, stability and performance of UST shafts.”
The low-torque characteristics of the Proforce V2 optimize performance today’s 400cc to 460cc driver heads and larger fairway woods, which often increase hit-ability for golfers. However, in most of these larger heads, the head’s center of gravity (CG) has been moved further away from the center line of the shaft, a factor which places more stress and causes more twisting on the shaft. The V2’s low torque design provides the power and control needed for 400cc to 460cc heads, plus the V2 prevents clubheads from twisting open on impact, reduces the amount of back spin imparted onto the ball and enhances shot dispersion.
UST continues to lead in the graphite shaft industry with innovative technology, and that’s why world-renown pros such as Jim Furyk, Davis Love III and Rod Pampling — among many others — put their trust in UST high-performance shafts.
